More than just advice

As a new parent, Ann was concerned about her son Zack’s behaviour and concentration and was keen to get some support and advice about how to help him.

Ann and Zack started attending a play and communication group run by LifeLine at Valence Children’s Centre which allowed her to approach Alison, one of the support workers, to ask for help. Alison was able to offer advice on how to help Zack with his behaviour. They also ended up talking about another concern that Ann had, concerning money. Zack was thriving at preschool, but Ann was worried that she couldn’t afford to keep paying the fees.

Alison saw how important it was that Zack kept his place at preschool as it was clearly having a positive impact on him. She did some research and found a funding scheme that would pay for preschool fees. She helped Ann fill in the paperwork and continued to offer her parenting advice and encouragement. Zack has now been approved for the scheme and is able to go to preschool every day without any cost to the family. Ann is also more confident in addressing his behaviour and is relieved to have received Alison’s support.

Alison was able to help Ann identify and find a solution to an underlying problem, building trust and investing in helping the family.
