Nathan Singleton

Nathan is passionate about improving the lives of young people and their families. Nathan draws from the African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child." He believes community is the component that is missing in the modern western society and the key component that would benefit young people. Nathan believes we are there, not just to help others but to support them to become agents of change within their communities.

Let’s demonstrate the importance of our work to our communities

Results and hitting your targets are the bedrock of success–especially in something like sports. The more goals a football player scores, the more valuable they become and the higher the salary they get paid. It makes perfect sense. It's the same in the business world–the more successful a CEO is, the more they are respected and valued. But results and...

A lifetime commitment to our communities

Like any parent, when I became a father, I wanted my children to get the best start in life. An important part of this was making sure we could be the best parents possible and provide opportunities for our children that would help them develop new life skills. This required sacrifices but we wanted them to have a solid foundation...

Mentoring: the key to releasing agents for change

Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care. Theodore Roosevelt When I was growing up, I was lucky enough to have a stable family and caring extended family that provided me the guidance and support that I needed. Like most children, I learnt by observing adults and then imitating them, particularly the ones They should...

Commitment enhances our bonds with the community

In Danny Wallace's memoir, 'Yes Man', he recounts how he chose to say 'yes' to just about anything that was offered to him for an entire year. The idea was that, if you take that leap of faith and make a commitment to something you'd normally reject, you just might end up happier for it.There's someone I know, an old...

Queen Elizabeth II: She made us see change as unavoidable

As I watched the TV with my family, witnessing the final chapter in the laying to rest of Queen Elizabeth II, I couldn't help but think back to the photo of her sitting alone in St. George's Chapel during Prince Philip's funeral in 2021. She, like the rest of us during the lockdown, made some very personal sacrifices for the...

We do better working together

As someone who runs a large charity, I am amazed at how many diverse people and systems it takes to manage and complete all our work successfully. You may ask, "Why have so many different people then?"Most people would say that the heart or brain is the most essential part of the body. They’re both very important, true, but if...

My hero and mentor

Richard was the definition of a natural leader, someone that people easily follow. He was inspiring for his actions, his bravery, his sacrifice, and his interest in other people. I knew Richard not only cared for me, but also that he had a vision for me. He believed in me from an early age, but he was very subtle in...

SW!TCH Rights: Finding out how stop and search affects young people

I read recently in a Metropolitan Police report that London youth crime figures have decreased by 50% over the last five years but, in the last year alone, the use of stop and search in England and Wales had risen by 24%. The Metropolitan Police made almost half (49%) of all stop and searches in England and Wales and the...
