Since Little Learners opened in 2015, the nursery has always aimed to be a place where children feel safe, happy, and ready to learn, and where families feel welcome and included.
In the past, parents mainly joined us for two big yearly events, graduation and our Christmas party. Although these were lovely celebrations, the team could see that families wanted more regular moments to take part in nursery life.
So, in 2024, Little Learners introduced a new series of monthly events designed to bring parents, grandparents, and carers into the nursery more often. What started as a simple idea has now become a highlight for many families, turning the nursery into a busy, friendly space filled with shared experiences.
The events themselves have grown into something special. In June, dads and father figures were welcomed to a relaxed Father’s Day breakfast. Children proudly showed off their rooms and artwork while enjoying a bite to eat together. Later that month, Sports Day brought parents onto the field to cheer on their children during races, games and lots of laughter.
September’s afternoon tea with grandparents was a gentle, heart-warming afternoon where children beamed as they introduced their loved ones to staff and friends. And in November, families brought blankets and snacks to a cosy movie night, enjoying films together and making memories inside the nursery they know so well.
Parents have responded with warmth and appreciation. One mum told us, “The staff have become like family members who have built bonds with my children. I’ve always felt very comfortable leaving them in their care.”
These regular meet-ups have made a real difference. Parents and staff now have more time to talk properly, share stories, and celebrate children’s progress together. Families tell us they feel more connected to the nursery, and children love seeing the important adults in their lives taking part in their world. Another parent shared, “I love the communication, the weekly newsletter, and the updates about what my son has been doing. It’s clear how much he’s grown in confidence and learning.”
This new approach fits closely with the heart of Little Learners’ mission. By inviting parents in more often, the nursery is helping children grow in confidence, supporting their development, and building a warm and supportive community around every family.
Or, as one parent beautifully put it, “One happy little girl equals one happy mummy!”
